The Residency Hotels are constantly striving towards decreasing their carbon footprint. One initiative was undertaken at The Residency Towers, Chennai, by Nagarajan Sankar, the Head of Housekeeping and member of I-PHA India. Biodegradable waste from the hotel is being composted to create the manure for the entire lawn. more

Taylor Uekert and colleagues in the Reisner lab have developed a sunlight-driven method to convert plastic waste into fuel and useful chemicals, according to a report published by The University of Cambridge. more

Dry surface biofilm has been found to exist on 93% of all critical care area hospital surfaces and over 50% of these biofilms contain mutant germs which are resistant to antibiotics; resulting in healthcare acquired infections. Hospital report discourages warm air dryers

New guidance on hand hygiene published by the French Society for Hospital Hygiene (SF2H), strongly discourages the use of electric hand dryers as a method of hand drying in hospital washrooms, and recommends instead the use of single use paper towels as the most effective way to dry hands and minimise the spread of microorganisms following a visit to the washroom. more
